Ronald J. Katter Available to Speak on Manhattan Ferry Boat Crash

January 9, 2013

Ronald J. Katter, a personal injury attorney and Founder of The Katter Law Firm, is available to speak about legal issues surrounding the ferry boat crash that occurred at the South Street Seaport.

On January 9, a commuter ferry boat owned and operated by Seastreak LLC, with 343 passengers and five crew members onboard, hit the dock as it pulled into Pier 11 near the South Street Seaport. The vessel had departed from Conner’s Pier in Highlands, New Jersey At least 57 people were reported injured, nine of whom suffered serious injuries.

Mr. Katter has previously litigated a personal injury case against Seastreak on behalf of a passenger who was injured on another Seastreak ferry. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the vessel that crashed today was involved in two prior crashes, one in 2009 and another in 2010.

“These types of accidents are rare, but often result in catastrophic injuries for those onboard,” Mr. Katter said. “Unfortunately for the injured parties, where operator error was a factor, the collision was completely avoidable. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Coast Guard are conducting their own investigations to determine whether this was the case.”
