The Katter Law Firm held a news conference on July 21 in Manhattan with Ida Goldstein, the widow of Robert Goldstein, an 88-year-old retired businessman and decorated Air Force veteran. Ms. Goldstein made her first public address since her husband tragically passed away from Legionnaires’ disease on July 17.
Attorney Ronald J. Katter outlined the firm’s legal strategy and intent to file a major civil action immediately upon environmental testing pinpointing the exact property owner responsible for the toxic exposure.
The impending litigation will seek comprehensive compensation for the victim’s profound pain and suffering, wrongful death, and financial losses. Crucially, the legal action will introduce direct liability claims for Ms. Goldstein, who suffered severe emotional and physical trauma due to intentional or negligent environmental exposure. The widow was forced to navigate their Upper East Side apartment and walk through a toxic cloud of aerosolized Legionella mist to visit her dying husband at Lenox Hill Hospital.
The defendant’s failure to maintain its commercial equipment turned a dense residential neighborhood into an active public nuisance, trapping the vulnerable widow in a hazardous corridor during her husband’s final two-week battle in the ICU.
